SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — The illegal distribution of South Korean content has become a part of everyday life in China, with the new Netflix series “The Glory” being no exception.
At present, the average rating of the Netflix’s South Korean original starring top actress Song Hye-kyo stood at 8.9 out of 10 points on the Chinese social media platform Douban.
Given that official Netflix service is not available in China, it can be assumed that the Korean drama is being watched illegally in the country.
“China arbitrarily uses the portrait rights of Korean “hallyu” stars appearing in Korean dramas and makes and sells fake goods for profits,” Seo Kyoung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women’s University, wrote on Facebook.
“After watching illegally, Chinese netizens have no shame in rating the Korean content.”
He also noted that Chinese authorities have refrained from crackdowns despite being aware of such illegal viewing, adding, “They must learn how to respect the culture of other countries and then show it in action starting from this year.”
