SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Korea Bizwire) – Ace Story, a content studio, has announced a landmark collaboration with Studio Hamburg UK (SHUK), a subsidiary of one of Europe’s largest media conglomerates, Studio Hamburg Production Group (SHPG), to co-produce a remake of the Korean drama “The Kidnapping Day.”
The original series, which concluded in October last year, is a comic thriller that revolves around the unlikely partnership between a bumbling kidnapper and an 11-year-old genius girl. The show was well-received, with actor Yoon Kye-sang delivering a commendable performance in the lead role.
The remake’s screenplay will be penned by Irish writer Ronan Blaney, known for his Oscar-nominated short film “Boogaloo and Graham” in 2015, which also won a BAFTA for Best Short Film.
This venture into co-production marks a significant shift from the traditional model of simply selling remake rights. It allows for shared revenue from distribution and ancillary businesses, highlighting the growing influence and strategic expansion of K-dramas in the global entertainment industry.
The collaboration between Ace Story and SHUK sets a precedent for future international adaptations of Korean content, promising broader exposure and appreciation for K-dramas worldwide.
