Korean Language Courses Coming to Military Schools in Myanmar

SEOUL, Nov. 2 (Korea Bizwire)The Korean Minister of National Defense, Han Min-goo, who is now visiting Malaysia, agreed with the Myanmarese Minister of National Defense, Sein Win, to open a Korean Language course at the military school of Myanmar.

The meeting marked the first time that Korea and Myanmar held defense ministerial talks. Officials from the Ministry of National Defense revealed that authorities from the two countries have been discussing the matter for some time, and agreed on the matter at the ministerial talks.

Defense authorities from the two countries will continue to discuss details such as supporting the school with tutors, with the goal of opening the Korean language course next year.

Three Myanmarese officers were sent to the Defense Language Institute in Korea last year, and are each studying at the military, naval and air force academy. Officials say that they plan to bring two more students to study in Korea.

Korea is the fourth largest investor in Myanmar, with total investment reaching 300 million dollars in 2013. As well, Hallyu is spreading quickly in Myanmar. Approximately 10 Korean dramas are aired on Myanmarese networks every day.
