SEOUL, June 22 (Korea Bizwire)As a shortage of oil in recent months continues to push gasoline and diesel prices higher, more people are leaving their cars behind during rush hour.

A 26-year-old office worker surnamed Kim, recently decided to push back his shift by one hour to ride Seoul Metro’s Line 4 to commute to his workplace in Seoul’s Jongno District.

The subway, which used to empty out by 9 a.m. after rush hour, is now filled with commuters until 10 a.m.

“I used to walk to work since it is so close to where I live. Now that oil prices are rising, I have all the more reason to walk to work,” said Lee, a 53-year-old office worker living in Gangnam District.

“Since oil prices are too high, more people seem to be using public transportation to get to work.”

“I regret my decision to buy a diesel car. I don’t know when diesel prices will fall below gasoline’s, so nowadays I just leave my car at home,” said a 40-year-old office worker surnamed Han from Nowon District.
