SEOUL, Mar. 12 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean telecom KT Corp. said Tuesday it will integrate its 5G network with a voice-controlled drone enabled by artificial intelligence (AI) to better monitor major infrastructure.

KT signed a memorandum of understanding with indigenous drone developer Woori Aviation Co., voice recognition solution start-up Syncspace and the state-run Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPIO) to jointly develop the smart drone.

KT said it will offer the 5G network for the drone that can fly up to 100 kilometers per hour and can be controlled by voice commands. The drone will make it easier for non-experts to maneuver the unmanned aerial vehicle, the firm said.

Under the agreement, the drone will conduct safety monitoring of the KOSPO’s power plants in the testing stage and seek ways to expand applications in other areas, the company said.

“KT will present the new security paradigm in the era of 5G, taking advantage of its drone, blockchain and AI technology,” Kim June-keun, head of safety and security platform business, said in a release.
