SEOUL, July 4 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics is making forays into the global sports lighting market with its next-generation lighting technology “plasma lighting system.” The company succeeded in commercializing the PLS technology first in the world that gives electric stimulus to make the lamp to emit bright light in a plasma state.
The company has recently installed 90 units of PLS lightings at the home stadium of the Argentinian professional football club San Lorenzo, a Super Liga team. The PLS-using lighting is highly economical thanks to the excellent optic efficiency, while providing the light that is closest to natural color. The PLS is suitable as lighting for sports stadiums. The PLS is enjoying rising popularity as an alternative to the existing metal halide lamp.
LG Electronics said that after installation of the PLS lightings, the brightness of the San Lorenzo stadium more than doubled to 750 lux from 350 lux. Unlike metal-halide lightings whose brightness falls below 70 percent of the initial level in 3,000 hours after the initial installation, PLS lightings maintain more than 90 percent of its brightness under the same condition. The PLS lightings can save electricity more than 15 percent compared to metal-halide lamps.
Yoon Tae-bong, head of LG Electronics Argentina, said, “With our PLS lamps, audiences to a night game in the stadium can feel as if they are watching the game in daylight.
TV viewers can also feel they are in the stadium. We will lead the market for sports lighting devices too.” The PLS lighting technology has been first commercialized by LG Electronics, with proven track records in installed bases such as Icheon’s LG Sport Complex and Nam-Yangju Amateur Baseball Stadium.
