SEOUL, Apr. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics has introduced a specialized diagnostic monitor designed for detecting and evaluating microcalcifications and small lesions in the breast, the company announced on April 4.
The new 21-inch display boasts a high resolution of 5 megapixels and features a luminance of 1,100 candelas per square meter and a contrast ratio of 1,800:1, enabling accurate readings, according to LG Electronics.
To aid in diagnosis, the monitor offers various imaging modes, including a “Focus View Mode” that highlights areas of concern and a “Pathology Mode” that provides microscope-like clarity. It also supports a bi-directional auto-pivot function, automatically adjusting the screen content when the monitor is rotated.
Equipped with a calibration sensor in the bottom right corner, the monitor can maintain consistent color and brightness levels regardless of usage time, without requiring any external devices.
The product has received Class 2 medical device certification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
With this new offering, LG Electronics aims to capture a share of the rapidly growing global market for breast imaging monitors. According to research firm Persistence Market Research, the worldwide breast imaging market is projected to expand at an annual rate of 11.6 percent, reaching $6.9 billion by 2033, up from $2.3 billion in 2023.
LG Electronics emphasized that it now has a comprehensive lineup of diagnostic monitors, including 3-megapixel models primarily used for radiological image reading, as well as 8-megapixel and 12-megapixel models with screen-splitting capabilities for simultaneous diagnosis of multiple images.
Currently, LG Electronics offers 13 medical monitor models, comprising five for diagnostic purposes and five for surgical use.
Late last year, the company secured an eight-model medical monitor supply contract with the French Public Hospitals Purchasing Union (CAIH), worth 10 million euros (approximately 15 billion won) over four years – the largest deal since LG Electronics entered the medical imaging device business in 2016.
At the company’s annual general meeting last month, LG Electronics CEO Cho Joo-wan highlighted plans to accelerate growth in the business-to-business (B2B) sector, where significant opportunities exist.
“With our new breast imaging monitor and our formidable display technology capabilities, we aim to provide a differentiated customer experience in the B2B medical device field through our comprehensive lineup of medical monitors,” said Lee Yoon-seok, head of LG Electronics’ IT business division.
