SEOUL, May 13 (Korea Bizwire) – Smartphone extends its reach of personal assistance features to making “personalized suggestions” of where to eat, in particular when finding out a gourmet restaurant for a special occasion.

LG UPlus, one of Korea’s top three wireless carriers, has announced on May 13 that it has added a food map service to its famous app “U spoon,” which provides optimized information to the user in accordance with the handset owner’s location, schedule, and life patterns. At the moment it has over 100,000 subscribed users in less than five months of the service launch, echoing huge popularity in the custom-information based mapping service.

As opposed to the common way of mapping service — which requires the user to search for necessary information available on the DB from the carrier service, this service will approach the user on its own: it will offer personalized recommendation depending on the users’ individual lifestyle pattern.

With databases of over 10,000 restaurants across the nation, this mapping service tips you the best optimized information by day of a week or time, taking  the user’s specific location, gender, age, and even itinerary into account.

Unlike other restaurant finder apps, where the smartphone owner has to set his location by himself before the app finds the restaurants nearby — this might be a hassle for some users, U spoon will automatically analyze the user’s location, schedule and itinerary and suggest suitable diners, that is the main selling point of this mapping service.

Moreover, the food map service will read trip plans saved in the smartphone, and automatically push-alarm the user with suggestions nearby the travel area.

The app will not only display all the eateries in nearby area, but also show the restaurants that have been introduced on television programs, giving much credibility to the app’s recommendation algorithm.

A head of intelligence business team in LG UPlus said, “We hope that the added service will help U spoon to be more convenient and become a useful personal assistance application. We also look to further expand our intelligence service and wish to continue to lead the LTE market.”

U spoon is available for download on ” UPlus Store” or Google Play Store for LG UPlus  subscribers.
