SEOUL, Aug. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — The live performance film of trot singer Lim Young-woong topped the local box office in revenue on Wednesday, according to data released Thursday.
The film, titled “Lim Young-woong: I Am Hero — The Stadium,” which features his live performance at the World Cup Stadium in western Seoul in May, earned 1.42 billion won (US$1.06 million) on its opening day, accounting for 44.3 percent of the total box office revenue, according to the Korean Film Council.
In a distant second was the American sci-fi film “Alien: Romulus,” which brought in 490 million won, representing 15.6 percent of the day’s total revenue.
In terms of audience numbers, however, Lim’s film ranked second with 49,000 viewers, behind “Alien: Romulus,” which attracted 63,000 viewers.
The higher revenue for Lim’s film is attributed to its higher ticket prices and screenings in special theaters like IMAX and Screen X.
As of Thursday morning, the film continued to lead the box office with a 27.1 percent reservation rate, followed by “I, the Executioner,” set for release on Sept. 13, with a 13.4 percent reservation rate.
