SEOUL, Jan. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — A recent study revealed that U.S. media service provider Netflix Inc. has surpassed 10 billion won (US$8.9 million) in monthly revenue in South Korea.
Wise App, a South Korean application analysis agency, said that as of December last year, there were 900,000 Netflix subscribers in South Korea, with monthly subscription revenue reaching 11.7 billion won (US$10.4 million).
“South Koreans use a variety of channels to pay for Netflix subscriptions,” said Wise App. “As such we assume that monthly revenue will be slightly higher than our estimation.”
Customers in their 20s accounted for 41 percent of all Netflix subscribers, followed by those in their 30s (29 percent), 40s (16 percent), and over 50 (14 percent).
Netflix app users from Android devices went from 340,000 in January of last year to as many as 1.27 million in December, which was a 274 percent increase.
