INCHEON, May 12 (Korea Bizwire) — Eco Nuri, the first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered ship in Asia which has been operated by the Incheon Port Authority since 2013, is supporting the cultivation of domestic startups.
The LNG-powered ship that was introduced in July 2013 as a guide ship for the port of Incheon has accommodated a total of 15,533 passengers so far.
With this ship, the port’s visitors can take a tour of the sea around the port. The ship is capable of accommodating up to 57 passengers and sailing at a speed of 15 knots.
On the basis of operating 1,000 hours per year, it can reduce the emission of sulfur oxides by 100 percent, nitrogen oxides by 92 percent, dust by 99 percent and carbon dioxide by 23 percent.
Recently, the ship has participated in a scale-up challenge lab project that helps data collection and analysis for start-ups in the areas of shipping, port management and logistics.
The project, organized by the Incheon Technopark and run by the Incheon National University’s Startup Business Support Platform, uses the LNG-powered ship to create an environment where start-ups can demonstrate their products or services.
