Medical Complex for Specialized Hospitals Coming to Incheon

Apart from the five hospitals, other medical facilities such as a medical center exclusive to foreigners, a general medical examination center, and a postnatal care center are also being planned, along with dermatology, plastic surgery, dental, and urology clinics, all of which will offer visitors a wide range of medical services. INCHEON, Sept. 27 (Korea Bizwire) – Songdo International Business District (Songdo IBD) in Incheon is set to become the staging area for a new medical complex for specialized hospitals (hospitals specializing in a specific field of medicine), the first of its kind to be established in Korea.

Unlike conventional medical complexes, which are often formed by smaller clinics, the one in Songdo IBD will be centered around specialized hospitals officially recognized by the government.

Covering over 15,000 square meters, the complex is the brainchild of a 250-billion-won ($227.5 million) consortium including Malaysian medical investment firm GPSB and five specialized hospitals in Korea – Sejong General Hospital (heart), HanGil Eye Hospital, Yeson Hospital (orthopedics), Dain Ear Nose and Throat Hospital, and New Korea Hospital (general).

The complex currently has an estimated capacity of roughly 440 inpatients, but will likely increase to over 500 with an obstetrics hospital and a hospital specializing in the digestive system also expected to move in after its opening, which is planned for the end of 2019.

Apart from the five hospitals, other medical facilities such as a medical center exclusive to foreigners, a general medical examination center, and a postnatal care center are also being planned, along with dermatology, plastic surgery, dental, and urology clinics, all of which will offer visitors a wide range of medical services.

“With Korea’s top-tier hospitals jointly investing and managing the facility, I expect the complex to operate with great business efficiency, offering patients the best medical services,” said Chung Kyu-hyung, doctor and chief director of HanGil Eye Hospital, and the president of the Korean Special Hospital Association.

“We’ll also focus our efforts on attracting ‘medical tourists’ from overseas, to help it become the center of the medical hallyu (Korean wave).”

I am a student at the University of Utah Asia Campus and I am interested in interviewing some people related to the government regarding the Medical Complex program. Some questions would be “What are some of the expectations of this program for the community?” or “How much subsidy is given for this project?”. If you know any contacts who could potentially answer these questions, please recommend them with their email or phone number.
    Thank you in advance,
    Shaun
