SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – The South Korean Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity, announced on December 12 the trial operation of ‘AlgeoMath Kids’, a new educational tool for primary school students. This pilot program will run from December 15 until March of next year, with the full service set to launch on World Mathematics Day, March 14, 2024.
‘AlgeoMath Kids’ is an expansion of the original ‘AlgeoMath’, a digital engineering tool developed in 2017 for middle and high school students. This program has been utilized by nearly 930,000 users in 2022 alone. It aids in learning algebra and geometry, allowing students to observe and explore graph shapes and the properties of figures.
This year, following feedback from schools, ‘AlgeoMath’ was adapted for primary education. ‘AlgeoMath Kids’ incorporates construction features and simulates the physical manipulation of mathematical teaching aids. A notable aspect of the program is the ability for students to interact with three-dimensional objects, such as constructing and manipulating building blocks, and exploring polyhedrons by unfolding or folding them.
The Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity are distributing user guides to teachers and conducting informational sessions. They also plan to promote the program to primary school students.
Kim Yeon-seok, Director of the Responsible Education Policy Office at the Ministry of Education, expressed optimism about the new tool, stating, “AlgeoMath Kids will serve as a foundation for all students to enjoy learning mathematics, build confidence in the subject, and grow into future innovators.”
