SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – The Ministry of Science and ICT has announced plans to develop digital chat bots for lonely seniors as well as a platform providing information related to chemical products by 2020.

The plans for the science ministry’s new technology development project were revealed on Wednesday, the continuation of an initiative that was launched in 2014 to tackle common social problems using science and technology.

Researchers at DST Robot will develop chatbots that will talk to seniors and contact their family members in case of an emergency, a 4 billion won digital companion project to improve the quality of life of elderly people.

An information platform for harmful household chemical products will be also developed, in the form of a database that will offer personalized information, with the 8 billion won project scheduled to be developed by researchers at Sejong University by 2020.

The announcement comes after a series of scandals surrounding harmful substances found in household chemical products such as humidifier sterilizers.

Over 30 firms were fined this year for illegally distributing toxic chemicals which were used to manufacture humidifier sterilizers responsible for multiple deaths and injuries.

“As controversy continues to surround the harmfulness of household chemical products including endocrine-disrupting chemicals in toys, humidifier sterilizers, and sanitary pads, the new platform is expected to help offset some of the public’s worries,” the science ministry said.

In addition, another research project will be commissioned to craft law and policy for technological development projects with social causes.

“We will create a system in which common problems regarding health, the environment, and natural disasters are solved through science and technology, and provide support to utilize previous projects,” the science ministry said.

Thank you for this provided information. The growth of chatbots is progressing at a breakneck pace. Already now we can see how rapidly the use of messengers is increasing. As the mobile app market pushes this technology forward, interactions with chatbots become more and more sophisticated. I want to introduce to Engati.
