SEJONG, April 26 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Education and the National Fire Agency jointly announced on Tuesday the forthcoming introduction of an automatic emergency vehicle access system for kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as universities throughout the nation.

The system will allow fire trucks and ambulances carrying special license plates, starting with ’998′, to pass through unmanned access gates seamlessly, thereby enabling faster response times in emergency situations such as fires and accidents.

In the year 2021, the government has revised relevant notices to prioritize the golden time for fire, rescue, and emergency services. The automatic emergency vehicle access system was initially introduced to apartments and multi-use facilities, and it has now been extended to educational facilities.

Last month, the Ministry of Education commenced a survey of the unmanned access control devices installed in approximately 21,000 schools nationwide. The ministry aims to enhance the functions of the unmanned entry/exit barriers, or replace them altogether, and introduce an automatic entry/exit system for emergency vehicles in all schools across the country by the end of next year.
