SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – A new service is being launched that helps car owners check their vehicle’s emissions, see potential subsidies for buying an eco-friendly car, find out about maintenance costs, and understand the environmental benefits of eco-friendly vehicles.

The Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Agency have announced the My Car Easy Check Service, which will provide environmental information about individual cars, such as their emissions rating. This service is part of the “Automotive Environmental Big Data System Construction Project.”

As part of the project, emissions data from over 25 million cars across the country is collected and analyzed, with the aim of addressing current environmental issues related to automobiles and formulating emissions-related policies.

The My Car Easy Check Service uses the collected emissions data to give car owners a clear overview of their vehicle’s information.

It also presents information about emissions test pass rates, emissions levels for internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, subsidies available for purchasing eco-friendly vehicles, cost savings related to maintenance, and the positive environmental benefits of switching to eco-friendly cars. This is done in a way that makes it easy for owners of ICE cars to understand the advantages of transitioning to eco-friendly vehicles.

Notably, users can compare their car’s emissions test results to those of other vehicles and understand their car’s emissions levels using simple categories like “good,” “moderate,” and “caution.”

Furthermore, by entering details like fuel efficiency, fuel costs, and mileage, the app can provide information about various benefits, including potential savings on car taxes and subsidies for eco-friendly car purchases. It also calculates the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when transitioning from an ICE vehicle to an eco-friendly one, like hydrogen or electric cars.

For instance, if you own a Class 4 emissions vehicle in Incheon and switch from a traditional diesel car (engine size 1995cc) to an electric passenger car (consuming 5.1km/KWh), you may be eligible for national and local government subsidies totaling up to 7.6 million won and 3.5 million won, respectively. Additionally, by driving 20,000 kilometers per year, you can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3.7 tons annually compared to an ICE vehicle.
