SEOUL, Jun. 28 (Korea Bizwire)Seoul National University (SNU) has decided not to send out a report card to students for the first time since the foundation of the university, starting from the first semester of this year.

Without the paper report card, students can check their scores electronically through the SNU portal site instead.

“The need to send paper report cards by mail has decreased as checking grades online has become more common,” an SNU official said.

The official also added that the mail often got returned since students intentionally registered their friends’ addresses to hide their report cards or did not write down their proper address.

The exposure of students’ personal information was also pointed out as a main concern when sending report cards by mail.

Students at SNU have displayed mixed feelings regarding the school’s decision to discard paper report cards.

One student welcomed the policy and wrote on the SNU Internet Community saying “We no longer have to intercept in the middle and check our mailboxes every day to steal our transcripts.”

On the other hand, another student said, “It was fun collecting paper report cards, but it’s too bad that they disappeared.”
