SEOUL, April 5 (Korea Bizwire) – Engaged couples are shopping online to purchase furnishings for their new homes, avoiding endless shopping and almost inevitable arguments while they purchase the items the need to start a life together.
Not so long ago, couples preparing for marriage had to walk around from store to store to purchase the items they would need after getting married. However, as online shopping sites have a wide variety of products on offer these days, young couples are seeking convenience instead of going through a lot of trouble and walking.
Large items, such as home appliances, furniture, and bedding are frequently bought by trend-savvy couples through promotions conducted online.
According to the online shopping site Auction (www.auction.co.kr), sales of king-size beds and recliners each jumped over 400 percent during the past two months, part of the spring wedding season.
In addition, sales of cabinets, shelves and tea tables doubled. HD TVs (1,900 percent) and UHD TVs (467 percent) manufactured by small and midsized companies also saw dramatic sales increases.
Auction representatives say this phenomenon seems to be the result of young couples preferring to purchase individual items from the brands of their liking, and decorating their homes in a style that reflects their tastes, instead of buying complete packages from a certain brand.
In the meantime, online sales of expensive watches and jewelry also increased three to four times each, and more couples are purchasing bedding online, with sales doubling.
Auction officials explained that online shopping sites are selling more products in direct partnership with department stores or manufacturers. As a result, they are choosing to carry a wider range of items, allowing consumers to select what they want in a more convenient way. “Not only furniture and electric home appliances, but also interior decoration service packages are popular among young couples preparing for marriage,” they added.
