Oceans Ministry to Spend 10.4 Bln Won to Foster Maritime Experts with IMO

SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s oceans ministry said Monday it plans to spend 10.4 billion won (US$7.45 million) to support the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) efforts to foster maritime experts.

Under the project, the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology will select students from around the globe for its master’s program in coastal engineering and marine pollution prevention, according to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

South Korea will also offer tailored programs for Mongolia and countries in the Caribbean region, providing administrative, technical and legal workshops in the maritime sector.

“The collaboration with the IMO aligns with South Korea’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships and advancing its status in the maritime and fisheries sectors,” Oceans Minister Kang Do-hyung said in a statement.

“We will make efforts to ensure the program plays a pivotal role in fostering global maritime experts,” Kang added.
