SEOUL, Apr. 26 (Korea Bizwire)The fashion market in Dongdaemun, Seoul, is turning to technology to improve its competitiveness.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Thursday that it held the opening ceremony of “Within 24, Show Your Style” on the second floor of the Lotte Fit-in store in Dongdaemun.

“Within 24, Show Your Style” is a store that makes customized clothes within 24 hours for the customers.

The store will make clothes within 24 hours with 3D costume-making software based on the customer’s choice of basic design patterns, colors and lengths from kiosk.

According to the city official, it is the world’s first store to produce personal-tailored clothing in 24 hours, adding that it has incorporated information and communication technology (ICT) into Dongdaemun’s production system leading to planning, production and distribution that is the fastest in the world.

On the day of the opening ceremony, the city government and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the “Five Major Projects for the Revitalization of Dongdaemun Fashion Market,” which includes the production of tailored clothing.

By 2020, the city will establish a network linking several sewing factories in Dongdaemun and distribute large orders by factories.

The city aims to produce an app called “My Style Lab,” in the second half of this year and open a pilot store in Dongdaemun.

“My Style Lab” is a style recommendation store where artificial intelligence consults individual styles with big data and even links to purchases of products.

Seoul will also create a “V-commerce studio” in the second half of this year to support “V-commerce,” marketing that delivers product information through video to attract purchasers.

Furthermore, it will also establish a database linking Dongdaemun’s distributors and designers, Daegu and Gyeonggi Province’s fabric and dyeing companies, and sewing businesses in Changshin-dong, Seoul.

The new change will have a significant effect as the Dongdaemun Fashion Market has 20,000 retail stores and 7,000 sewing factories, accounting for 21 percent of South Korea’s textile and fashion exports and 26 percent of employment.
