SEOUL, Feb. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — With soaring consumer prices, a growing number of Koreans are scrambling to save even the smallest coins.
On Thursday at noon, the Seoul Museum of Art square slowly began to be filled with people.
After 20 minutes, some 200 people filled up the 800-square-meter plaza.
A fintech service provider recently began a “collect-ten-won” service as part of its smartphone app promotion, and people were using it to collect points.
Opening the app with Bluetooth on shows icons of nearby users using the same app. Users can tap on the icons to collect 10 won (US$0.008).
A rumor has spread that people are gathering in front of the museum at lunchtime.
Others have turned to an app that rewards users with 10 won for every 1,000 steps walked, tracked with a smartphone.
People are also joining the “10 won for a cigarette” campaign launched by the Yongsan District Office.
