Pet Preferences Differ by Personality: Report

SEOUL, May 9 (Korea Bizwire)There are clear differences in personality depending on whether people like dogs or cats, a report showed Monday.

Dog owners were more likely to be in a family household of three or four people, such as parents with middle or high schoolers, or working mothers, according to the report by local market analysis firm IGA Works.

Travel and camping enthusiasts also tended to own a dog.

In contrast, cat owners were more likely to be in a single-person household, including singles and recent graduates. Many of them were console gamers and webtoon enthusiasts and had subscriptions for book or webtoon services.

The data also showed that 76.8 percent of dog owners and 75.6 percent of cat owners were women.

Sorted by age, 41 percent of dog owners and 44 percent of cat owners were in their 30s or younger, while 59 percent of dog owners and 56 percent of cat owners were older than 40.

More than 2.2 million people reported using pet-related mobile apps in the first quarter of last year, up by 393 percent from 2019.

Transactions of pet-related goods on online shopping malls reached 2.27 trillion won (US$1.71 billion) in the first quarter of last year, up by 241 percent from 2019.
