SEOUL, March 16 (Korea Bizwire) — The government is stepping up to distribute uniforms recycled from plastic bottles to the military and the police.
The Ministry of Environment hosted a ceremony in Seoul on Monday where the Ministry of Defense, the National Police Agency, and the Korea Federation of Textile Industries bought technical wear made from plastic bottles.
At the ceremony, the Ministry of Defense and the National Police Agency vowed to purchase 10,000 and 2,000 garments made from recyclables, respectively.
The environment ministry has taken charge of the improvement of the recycling process and policy support. The Korea Federation of Textile Industries plans to expand the use of recycled materials among its member companies.
The technical wear to be distributed to the military and the police consists of 10,000 training uniforms for summer and winter, and 600 light work uniforms.
Along with the ceremony, an exhibition was held to showcase other clothes, bags, and shoes made from plastic bottles.
The environment ministry will designate recycled products as innovation products certified by the Public Procurement Service and obligate local authorities to purchase recycled products.
