SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Street tree grates made of recycled plastic and instant noodle bags will be installed in the city of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
Under an agreement with the Ministry of Environment announced on Monday, the city plans to install 139 rainwater-penetrating street tree grates made of recycled plastic to protect trees within the city.
The protective grates, which are typically square and protect tree roots, are usually made of steel and have an average selling price of 447,000 won (US$380).
On the other hand, protective grates made of recycled plastic have the same effect of protecting and supporting the roots of street trees, but are 50 percent cheaper.
