SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — Pope Francis met with South Korean religious leaders during a courtesy visit over the weekend, and expressed concerns over the heightened tension in the region after North Korea’s latest nuclear test.

In an address to the delegation of the Korean Council of Religious Leaders, consisting of representative of the Catholic and Protestant churches, Buddhism, and other religions, Pope Francis urged Koreans to oppose the ‘rhetoric of hatred’.

“Dear friends, may this meeting strengthen us on our journey. Seeing you here as pilgrims reminds me of my pilgrimage to the beautiful land of Korea, for which I remain grateful to God and to the beloved Korean people,” Pope Francis said.

“I constantly pray that God will bestow upon you the gifts of peace and fraternal reconciliation,” the pope continued.
