SEOUL, March 30 (Korea Bizwire) — POSCO DX Co., a unit of South Korea’s leading steelmaker POSCO, said Wednesday it would develop a roadkill prevention system for wild animals that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology in tandem with the Korea National Park Service.
The company, formerly POSCO ICT Co., will set up LiDAR sensors around busy thoroughfares to detect nearby objects and distances using laser beams.
It will then incorporate the newly developed Vision AI solution to study and analyze activity patterns of wild animals and create an early-warning system for drivers.
Data such as the timeframe in which wild animals appear most frequently as well as other activity situations will be managed under a dedicated database for roadkill prevention.
