GOCHANG, May 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Gochang County in North Jeolla Province is introducing a psychological therapy program using insects.
The Gochang Local Environment Education Center plans to open a new insect meditation program for local residents struggling with the so-called ‘corona blues’, or depressive symptoms caused by the pandemic.
The program was launched in 2019, with highly satisfactory feedback from participants in terms of overcoming depression and lethargic symptoms.
Starting in June, the county plans to work jointly with the Rural Development Administration (RDA), the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, and local insect experts to provide a more comprehensive healing program.
The RDA reported a 23.9 percent increase in mental health among participants in the psychological therapy program that involved the use of beetles, two-spotted crickets, and tiger swallowtail butterflies, as well as an 81.4 percent drop in depressive symptoms among seniors living alone.
