SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean steel company POSCO Holdings Inc. said Tuesday it plans to build an industrial gas production facility at a secondary battery complex in the country’s southeastern port city of Pohang.
The company plans to invest 100 billion won (US$76.3 million) in the 16,500-square-meter facility, with an annual production capacity of 250,000 tons, at the complex located near Yeongil Bay in Pohang, 262 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
The facility will be equipped with an oxygen plant and an air separation unit to separate and purify oxygen and nitrogen, as well as storage tanks capable of storing up to 2,000 tons of liquid oxygen.
High-purity oxygen and nitrogen produced at the facility will be provided to POSCO Future M, the group’s battery materials unit, to be used in producing cathode materials for the manufacturing of secondary batteries.
