SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — A growing number of South Koreans are commending police, firefighters and paramedics for their hard work during the Halloween crowd crush in Seoul’s Itaewon district last Saturday.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t save more of them,” one of the police officers who was sent to Itaewon that day said on Blind, acommunity of salaried workers that guarantees anonymity.
More than 300 comments have been posted to console the police officer.
“Thank you so much for your service. Please don’t blame yourself,” a local banker said in a comment.
“The fact that we failed to anticipate such an event, or prevent it from happening, comes as an extreme burden for all of us. But it’s also extremely difficult to curb the freedom of the few for the sake of the safety of all,” another police officer said.
“We should commend the hard work of the police officers, firefighters and paramedics rather than start looking for someone to blame,” feminist scholar and activist Kwon Kim Hyun-young said.
