SEOUL, Jan. 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Minor brain inflammation is instantly recovered, but in severe cases, it can bring about irreversible brain damage, causing degenerative brain diseases such as dementia.
A South Korean research team has discovered a protein that can suppress the brain inflammation.
The National Research Foundation of Korea announced on Wednesday that a research team at Kyungpook National University found the C8-gamma protein that can suppress brain inflammation, one of the main causes of dementia.
The research team found that the density of C8-gamma protein is higher in the brain model of dementia patients and animals with brain inflammation and dementia than normal groups.
The team also confirmed that acute brain inflammation stimulates astroglia cells that support the survival and activation of neural cells, inducing the secretion of C8-gamma protein.
The increase in the amount of C8-gamma proteins at astroglia cells contributes to reducing the vitality of microglial cells, thereby suppressing brain inflammation response and alleviating dementia symptoms.
