SEJONG, Nov. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Smart rest stops, complete with charging stations for electric vehicles, playgrounds, and convenience stores, will be built along national highways across South Korea.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will invest more than 3 billion won (US$2.5 million) to build each rest stop starting next year.
Once the rest stops are built, local authorities managing each section of the highway will be responsible for the development of various additional facilities, including promotion halls and cultural centers.
The government expects that the new rest stops will help promote local tourism, add new jobs, and contribute to local economies.
