SEOUL, Oct. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean broadcaster MBC and U.S. media network giant NBCUniversal will jointly develop an original format for a television program, said the Korean counterpart Friday.

“A contract was signed with NBCUniversal to collaborate on the development of a program format,” MBC said. “This marks the first time in history for a local terrestrial network to clinch this sort of an agreement with a multinational media conglomerate.”

NBCUniversal is home to a host of nationwide high-profile programs, including the Emmy Award-winning comedy show “Saturday Night Live,” reality cooking competition series “Top Chef” and the popular medical drama “House.”

The American premier media company made its position clear via its Korean counterpart that it has “selected MBC as its first Asian partner and emphasized that together, they will strive to develop a hit format that suit the taste of both local and international audiences.”
