S. Korean Firms Step Up to Save Environment on Earth Day

SEOUL, April 23 (Korea Bizwire) In celebration of Earth Day, retailers and other South Korean firms joined efforts on Thursday to save the environment.

Homeplus Co., a hypermarket chain operator, has vowed to introduce eco-friendly materials that replace plastic materials used for its private-label (PB) products. It also released label-free bottled water.

The shopping mall expects that it will reduce plastic use by 23 tons each year.

E-commerce giant WeMakePrice will sell pencils, vases, and other products made with coffee grounds, as part of its sustainable consumption campaign.

Another e-commerce website 11st introduced 100-percent recyclable paper buffers for all merchandise selected by the company’s merchandising director.

GS Shop, a major home shopping company, has decided to make eco-friendly water ice packs that are less harmful to the environment than other gel-based ice packs.

Local cosmetics company Skinfood announced that it will donate all of the day’s profits raised from its online shopping mall to protect the soil environment.

Amorepacific Corp. made 300 ‘green cycle’ flower vases by combining customer-returned plastic cosmetic bottles with ultra high performance concrete for donation to daycare facilities and other local institutions.
