SEOUL, July 11 (Korea Bizwire)With Japan’s impending discharge of contaminated water from its crippled Fukushima plant into the ocean, an increasing number of South Korean citizens and small businesses are purchasing radiation meters through online channels.

Currently, several online shopping malls offer a variety of portable radiation meters for sale.

These devices are designed to detect radiation not only in clothing and food but also in the air.

Prices vary significantly, ranging from 30,000 won (US$23.14) to 3 million won.

To inspect the seafood being sold, portable radiation meters have been acquired at Noryangjin Fish Market in Seoul, which has experienced a decline in sales due to concerns regarding the release of contaminated wastewater.

The Seongdong district office in Seoul has also allocated 3 million won per school to purchase portable radiation meters for 35 school cafeterias within the district.
