SEOUL, April 25 (Korea Bizwire) – The South Korean market of ice cream has seen growth in the last two years thanks to the spread of indoor activities in the pandemic era.
The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. and industry tracker Euromonitor International reported that last year’s South Korean ice cream market was worth 1.8 trillion won, up 5.1 percent from the previous year.
The market’s growth since 2020 is largely attributed to the increasing demand for snacks as more people stayed indoors during the pandemic era.
It is unlikely, however, that the growth will continue at this rate because the shrinking South Korean population is taking a toll on the overall food industry.
Sorted by type, individual cone ice cream products were more popular than cup ice cream until 2020, when cup ice cream products gained popularity due to increasing demand for premium ice cream.
