SEOUL, July 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Sales of dosirak (Korean lunchbox) products such as dosirak boxes and thermal lunch boxes are growing as the number of people packing their own lunch is increasing due to high inflation.
According to data from the online shopping mall Wemakeprice Inc., sales of dosirak products during the period from April 8 to July 7 were up more than 80 percent compared to a year ago.
Sales of dosirak boxes jumped by 50 percent, while the demand for thermal lunch boxes rose by 12 percent. The sales of spoon sets for use in dosirak boxes grew by 60 percent.
The sales of mini icepacks that can prevent lunchbox from going bad in the summer heat rose by 9 percent during the same period.
The sales of dosirak-dedicated bags and dosirak bags with heating and cooling functions also rose by 55 percent and 60 percent, respectively.
The sales of side dishes for the preparation of lunchbox also jumped sharply.
Sales in the ‘canned food’ and ‘fried, pancake and pan-fried dish’ categories rose by 45 percent and 26 percent, respectively, while sales in the ‘vegetable’ and ‘ham, sausage’ categories grew by 31 percent and 10 percent each.
