SEOUL, March 13 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it will expand its market share in organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs, where rival LG Electronics Co. remains the global market leader, with a focus on premium, large-sized products.

“Over the past two years, our OLED TVs have experienced rapid growth and our market share grew to nearly 23 percent,” Yong Seok-woo, president and head of the visual display business at Samsung Electronics, said in a press conference. “Our expanded OLED TV lineup for this year will help us narrow the gap in the market.”

Samsung Electronics is a relative newcomer in the global OLED TV market, which launched its first OLED TV in 2022.

But its presence has been growing rapidly as recent statistics showed Samsung Electronics accounted for 22.4 percent of the global OLED TV market in terms of revenue last year, with sales exceeding 2 million units over the past two years.

LG Electronics, one of the OLED TV powerhouses in the world, shipped around 3 million units of OLED TVs last year, accounting for 53 percent of the world’s total shipments. It has maintained its leadership position in the global OLED TV market for 11 years in a row.

“Our 77-inch OLED TVs’ market share has grown to nearly match the competitor in the Korean market,” Yong said. “We will continue to prioritize premium, large-screen OLED TVs to expand our share.”

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics released the 2024 Neo QLED 8K TV incorporating the NQ8 AI Gen 3 AI processor, the company’s AI-based neural quantum processor technologies, in the South Korean market.

The NQ8 AI 3rd Generation processor is the most powerful Samsung TV processor to date, with 512 neural networks, eight times more than the previous year, and boasting a twice as fast Neural Processing Unit (NPU) as the previous one as well, according to Samsung Electronics.

Leveraging AI-based processing, the TV elevates content to 8K resolution, delivering a more vibrant and dynamic viewing experience with enhanced contrast, color and brightness.

Enhanced by wireless speakers and a sound bar featuring Samsung’s advanced sound technology, Q-Symphony, the Neo QLED 8K TV promises dynamic tracking sound, clear voice quality and seamless integration.
