SEOUL, Aug. 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung SDI Co. said Thursday an electric vehicle (EV) equipped with its batteries has set a world record for the longest distance driven on a single charge.
The Lucid Air Grand Touring, an EV produced by U.S. automotive company Lucid Group Inc., traveled 1,205 kilometers from Switzerland to Germany, including alpine roads, highways and secondary roads, the South Korean company said in a release.
The new Guinness World Record beats the previous record set in June by 160 km, the company added.
The automobile was equipped with 6,600 units of Samsung SDI’s 21700 cylindrical battery.
“With Samsung SDI’s cylindrical battery powering the world’s longest-range vehicle, we have proven our technological prowess,” Samsung SDI said.
“We will strengthen our partnership with Lucid to expand our global market share and accelerate the development of products that combine differentiated performance and safety,” it added.
The two companies have been under partnership since 2016.
