SEOUL, March 28 (Korea Bizwire)Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it has started construction on a second production line at its factory in Xian, China, to meet rising demand for its 3D V-NAND products.

The construction comes after Samsung clinched an agreement with the regional government in China in August 2017 and involves investing US$7 billion over the next three years. The South Korean tech giant said the second line will help the company to actively deal with rising demand from the global IT industry.

“By successfully operating the second line in Xian, we plan to produce memory chip products of the highest quality and provide distinctive solutions to users, contributing to the development of the global IT market,” Kim Ki-nam, the head of Samsung’s device solution business, said.

The company said it also hopes that the second line will help tap deeper into the Chinese market, which is a manufacturing base for global mobile and IT firms.

Samsung started construction on its first production line in the central Chinese city in 2012 and started producing the first-generation V-NAND products in 2014.
