SEOUL, July 28 (Korea Bizwire) — A sculpture that recreates the barbed wire from the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the Korean Peninsula has been displayed near the Memorial of the Berlin Wall in Germany.
The sculpture, titled “A Leap of Faith,” is created by Korean artist Cha Joo-man and spans 42 meters in length.
It was set up on Berlin’s Bernauer Strasse, where remnants of the Berlin Wall are preserved. The barbed wire used in the sculpture is made of rubber.
The main intention of the sculpture is to emphasize the historical similarity between the divided two Koreas and unified Germany.
This comes as South Korea celebrates its 70th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War.
As part of the Potsdam Kunstraum’s UTOPIA·PEACE exhibition, 18 artists from South Korea, Germany, and the U.S. showcased artworks that express a visual experience of the divided Koreas.
