SEOUL, Sept. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Monday began a trial of autonomous driving electric buses in the Cheonggye Stream area.
The buses, developed by the autonomous-driving system developer 42dot, come with a panorama glass roof, which covers all the way down the passenger’s waist, to emphasize the openness.
The doors are set up with pressure and light sensors to prevent any accidents or passengers from getting stuck.
The buses are self-driven by default, but a human test driver will be on board to deal with emergency situations, in accordance with current legislation.
Since the trial is focused on verifying the performance of the autonomous driving system, ordinary passengers will not be able to board.
Ordinary passengers will gain access to the buses once they begin commercial operation, which is expected to be around October.
