SEOUL, July 13 (Korea Bizwire) – The Seoul city government said Wednesday it will install a large-scale national flag made of flowers at a square in central Seoul to celebrate the 71st anniversary of South Korea’s liberation from Japan’s colonial rule.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it is planning to set up a Taegeukgi standing 5.2 meters high and 8 meters wide at Gwanghwamun Plaza from Aug. 1 to Aug. 15.
“Taegeuk,” the symbol centered on the flag, will be made of red and purple petunias. White petunias and impatiens will be used for the background along with Pachysandra terminalis for the four trigrams in each corner of the flag, the city government said.
The 21 million won (US$18,300) project is in line with its efforts to boost patriotism in celebration of the national holiday and advertise the national emblem to foreigners visiting the area, one of the cities’ most favored tourism spots.
The city government installed a similar but smaller flag at Seoul Plaza in front of City Hall last year.
