SEOUL, July 2 (Korea Bizwire)During the whole month of July, Seoul will be the heaven for foreign shoppers: The Seoul Metropolitan City government is staging a “Seoul Summer Sale 2014” event in tandem with the upcoming summer holiday season.

From July 1 through 31, roughly 1,200 shops in the city including department stores, duty free shops, and shopping malls plan to offer 5 to 70 percent discounts benefits for foreign shoppers. The city government expects this shopping-focused promotional event will boost an image of Seoul as a city of “shopping paradise.”

Aimed especially at young Asian women visitors in their 20s and 30s, the city named  K-pop boy group “Beast” as the festival’s goodwill ambassador and will offer a variety of events on and offline where the visitors can join to make a fun during the summer sale event time.

Widely expected as a signature shopping festival for foreign tourists, the Seoul Summer Sale will offer a wide range of discount goods and services in multiple areas. With a Seoul Summer Sales Discount Card, foreign tourists can buy a variety of items at more affordable prices and participate in many colorful events which also feature giveaways and freebies to give momentum to the foreign shoppers’ shopping spree during the event.

The discount cards and welcome brochure which contain detailed information on the festival are available at the Incheon International Airport information center, the information booth in Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and major tourists’ information centers in Seoul for free. Also, they are available at the festival website (www.seoulsale.com).

A special online event is being provided them with a chance to win round-trip tickets to Seoul and popular Korean cosmetics, and signature CDs of Beast in the website during the festival.

The event organizer, with an aim to attract more Chinese tourists, selected UnionPay, the largest credit card company in China, as the main sponsor of the festival and plans such promotional activities like giving out free gifts to UnionPay credit card holders at the airport information center and a lottery ticket for UnionPay receipt with more than 100,000 won at the DDP information center. The lottery draw winners will be awarded a luxury watch, a round-ticket to Seoul and others.
