SEOUL, Feb. 11 (Korea Bizwire)Park Won-soon, the mayor of Seoul, said he plans to shutter all dog slaughterhouses in the South Korean capital.

Park, during a meeting with the audience on Saturday at a movie theater after watching a South Korean animation film, “The Underdog”, said he is working towards shutting down all dog slaughterhouses in Seoul.

“There were several slaughterhouses in the Cheongnyangni area, but we were able to shut almost all of them down,” Park said. “I was told that there are one or two left. We will make sure that we ask them to shut down.”

Currently, there are five dog meat stores remaining at Seoul’s Gyeongdong Market. Two of them were known to both slaughter and sell dogs.

“Every year, 8,500 dogs are being abandoned in Seoul, and one-fourth of them are put to death because they aren’t adopted in time,” said Park.

“Creating a world where animals too can enjoy peace and safety is something that I believe is very important.”

Please do your utmost to close down all these terrible dog meat farms. Just imagine being a dog in your country, the unimaginable suffering they go through throughout their short tragic lives. Dogs are companion animals and would lay down their lives for a valued member of their family and just don’t deserve to be treated in this way. Lock up these dog meat farmers in these cold metal cages open to the elements with no protection for a week so they can experience what these dogs go through. Please please if you have a kind heart close down these awful places for good.

Animals have feelings and emotions. Therefore, they feel pain and suffering. Please stop all this inhumane bloodshed and stop torturing and killing those innocent, helpless, beautiful and loving creatures.

What is wrong with South Korea, your people and your government? The hideous and sadistic slaughter of innocent domestic pets and these dogs as well, grabbed off the street, scaled, beat to death, throats slip and worse is a shame to your country.

The Injustice of the Innocent & Voiceless! All animals deserve lives free from human-inflicted suffering. As the highest created being, humans have a moral obligation to be wise stewards of animals. Just because we happen to be the most powerful species on earth, we humans have the ability, but not the right, to abuse the so-called lower animals. The ends do NOT justify the means!

We all know that there is something seriously wrong with a food system where the best day of an animals’ life is the day that it is finally over.

Mayor Park Won-soon: Thank-you! for stepping up to protect and save the lives of countless dogs and cats in your country from such horrendous cruelty. It is way, way past time to shut down all the dog farms and slaughterhouses throughout South Korea. By taking this much needed action, millions of innocent, feeling, intelligent, and extremely loyal companion animals will have a chance to live their lives, as they so deserve.

Please do everything in your power to end this cruel and senseless trade which incidentally does such harm to South Korea’s international reputation. You cannot imagine the revulsion created by knowledge of the methods used to keep and slaughter sentient creatures in this way. If you are successful in your pledge, you will earn the respect and admiration of millions of people worldwide for achieving a great act of humanity.
