SEOUL, March 17 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Wednesday it will establish the first Gig Worker Workstation as part of efforts to provide workspace for gig workers who are employed primarily on a temporary basis.
Based on considerations that gig workers use cafes or shared offices as workspaces, thereby resulting in a significant economic burden, the city government plans to improve their work environment by providing them with a unique workspace that they can use freely.
The first Gig Worker Workstation that will be set up near Hapjeong Station is not a newly-established space, but will share the space of an existing shelter for contingent workers.
The shelter has been used mainly by designated drivers as a place for rest and waiting for calls at night. Since the shelter is not used much during daytime, it can be used a space for gig workers.
The Gig Worker Workstation will have three six-seat tables, ten single-seat tables, an education room, a small conference room and a pantry room for simple cooking.
