SEOUL, Korea, Dec 30 (Korea Bizwire) – SK C&C, an SK Group company specializing in IT services such as IT consulting, outsourcing, system integration, and system maintenance, will accelerate its move into the big-data market in the new year. The company said this on December 29, adding its 50-person big data task force would be expanded into a 100-member team doing everything from big-data consulting to big-data services specialized for different industrial sectors.
An SK C&C official said, “Even though big data has become one of the hottest keywords in information technology of late, it has failed so far to materialize into a market. In 2014 things will be different.” The Forbes magazine, citing data from American market research firm IDC, said the global big data market in 2014 would grow more than 30 percent to US$16.1 billion, becoming a full-fledged market.
With the expanded task force, SK C&C will explore opportunities in such industrial areas as financial services, communications, semiconductor, security, and manufacturing. The company boasts its own cloud-based big-data analysis platform, similar to Amazon’s big data service “Elastic MapReduce” that spits out analysis results with a few clicks.
