SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean builder SK ecoplant Co. said Tuesday it will take part in large-scale offshore wind power projects in the country in collaboration with a duo of global energy firms.

The company on Monday signed a business agreement with British offshore wind developer Corio Generation and French energy and petroleum company TotalEnergies to jointly develop domestic offshore wind power projects.

SK ecoplant plans to secure a stake in the BadaEnergy offshore wind power development project platform that has been carried out by Corio Generation and TotalEnergies.

BadaEnergy consists of 2.6-gigawatt (GW) floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind power projects in five areas, including Ulsan and South Jeolla Province.

With an ideal wind speed of eight meters per second or faster, these locations are great sites for plant construction and electricity distribution.

Together with Corio Generation and TotalEnergies, SK ecoplant plans to participate in the entire spectrum of the BadaEnergy project from the initial stages of business development to construction and operation.

The consortium is aiming to start building power plants from 2024 at the earliest and launch commercial operations from 2027.
