SEOUL, Jan. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Innovation Co., South Korea’s leading refiner and chemical company, will soon begin mass production of electric vehicle (EV) batteries that will offer a range of 500 kilometers on a single charge.
The company is currently building a new EV battery plant in Georgia, the United States, with the aim to complete construction by the end of next year.
Once the construction is complete, the plant will go through test production and begin manufacturing batteries for commercial use starting in 2022.
The new batteries will allow EVs to cover the 456 kilometers between Seoul and Busan on a single charge.
SK Innovation’s battery plant in Georgia is one of the state’s largest investment projects, built on 280 acres of land, using 19,000 tons of steel for the construction of three buildings.
