SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Co. and affiliate Kia Corp. are proving to be strong players in the Indian sport utility vehicle (SUV) market.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) reported that out of 100,055 SUVs sold in India last month, Hyundai and Kia sold 18,538 and 15,931 vehicles, respectively.
Hyundai and Kia together hold 34.5 percent of the market share in the Indian market.
Kia also showed great performance by selling 10,488 units of its Seltos compact SUV as well as 5,443 units of Sonet.
The Sonet, in particular, followed Hyundai’s Venue to become India’s second bestselling SUV last month.
SIAM reported that a total of 958,873 SUVs were sold in India between January and October of this year, among which 369,085 were from Hyundai and Kia, garnering 38.5 percent of the overall market share.
