SEOUL, June 16 (Korea Bizwire)Snowball,” a mobile ad app that gives out reward points to anyone who makes recommendations to their friends, is gaining popularity from smartphone users. According to Google Play and Apple App Store on June 2, the number of downloads for Snowball on their services is rapidly on the rise.

Unlike any other reward apps that give away reward points for users who view advertising messages, the Snowball app grants points when the user makes recommendations on the app to his friends, thereby maximizing the word-of-mouth effect.

As the user gets reward points if a person whom he recommends makes another recommendation, the user’s points can literally “snowball” instantly. In the beginning, the user can get points when he views an ad message that appears in the form of push alarm. If he sends the same message out to friends on his address book and some of the friends see the message, he will get additional reward points.

An advertiser who has had experience in paying for a multiple number of reward apps said, “Comparing to any other reward app, Snowball was three times more effective.” As Snowball messages are posted on many other social network services such as KakaoTalk, Line, and Facebook, its advertising effect is more powerful than any other apps.

The Snowball app is available on Google Play and Apple App Store for free. The points accumulated by the user can be redeemed with a variety of goods in the app. The points can be exchanged with cash too.

A Snowball official said, “Snowball is a new form of advertising platform that combines the existing features of reward apps with the best of social network services. We expect this to be a useful channel for distributing other contents such as music and movies other than ad messages.”
